God Provides a Way Out
Sermon Application:
1. Being honest with yourself (and with God), is there something that dominates your time, thoughts, behavior that you want to change?
• Psalm 50:15 (ESV) 15and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."
2. Be encouraged. Those things that have overtaken you are not uncommon to man and God is faithful and will provide a way out. There is No condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1-4)!
3. Confess your need and remorse for not heeding God's provision of escape. 1 John 1:9.
4. Develop positive, Christ centered habits (devotional times, Christian fellowships, Christian service, Bible studies). "A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit."
- Desiderius Erasmus (Dutch Theologian mid 1400's)
5. Ask God (and trusted others) to reveal any patterns, habits, vices that he wants to set you free from.
• Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)23Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
6. In areas of deep additions, seek a trusted friend, professional counselor, pastor, support group.
• Isaiah 41:10 (ESV) 1ºfear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
7. Purpose to let God meet all your needs (Philippians 4:19) and enjoy his wonderful freedom and peace!
• When we pray for the Spirit's help ... we will simply fall down at the Lord's feet in our weakness. There we will find the victory and power that comes from His love.
Andrew Murray (south African pastor in Africa mid 1800)
